The Ball at the Bridge: Work, Eat, Live, Learn, Play

The Ball meets The Bridge

The Ball was invited to meet the founder of The Bridge, former NFL athlete Gary Gilliam. He started The Bridge program in late 2019. It uses abandoned buildings in the Harrisburg area (where he grew up) and transforms them into ‘Eco-Villages’ that include ecological lifestyle and gardening. Importantly they are located in underprivileged communities where they offer countless opportunities for locals to grow.
Gary Gilliam signed The Ball and had this to say.

Our pledge here at the Bridge is to show a real world example, how when you bring together all 17 of the SDGs that it does indeed create a sustainable development. Here at The Bridge that means longevity. Sustainability is not just about solar panels, water collection or bio waste food digesters but it is about education, holistic thinking, bringing together a community for the betterment of its neighborhood. Our pledge is to continue to do exactly that. I think this means SDG 17, right, partnership for the goals to accentuate the rest of them.“
