The Ball traveled to Jordan and was able once more to prove its positive radiance and potential as social connector within the framework of a special project, financed by the German Foreign Ministry and supported by World Vision, Care International and UNHCR.
After being officially greeted in Jordan’s capital Amman on Saturday, 19th May, at the beautiful venue of the Royal Jordanian Film Commission, with the support of the German Embassy and Care International, The Ball went on to the Azraq refugee camp, where more than 40,000 Syrian refugees have been housed since 2014.
At the end of our second train-the-trainer programme, which entails schooling 22 refugees in our fairplay methods, The Ball was witness to remarkable developments and strong emotional ties, which were spun during and because of the programme. The participants very proudly presented the results of their week with us. These included self-made footballs, several new team-building methods through games, and a repertoire of football coaching and fairplay applications. Special attention was given to a communally created textile-painting, which beautifully exemplified the hardships and hopes of camp life and touched all of us with its message of humanity and solidarity. “Through solidarity, hope and love we can make the impossible possible” was its message.
It is clearly palpable, how this programme has brought us closer together and how much positive development there is yet to come. The arrival of The Ball further emphasized this and brought smiles to many faces. In this way, people have become a part of this unique journey, who often don’t receive the attention they deserve. We hope to transport their stories and their energy with the help of The Ball over and beyond the Camp fences into the world and in this way to contribute our share to the changes necessary.
