Today we kick off 3 days of activities

Today we kick off 3 days of activities with Special Olympics Guatemala. Spirit Of Football loves working with Special Olympics because of the genuine realness of the people one meets, both staff and athletes. A Special Olympics Athlete is authentic and untarnished by the strange consumer driven world we live in. This is Vilma Juares Palencia. Her daughter was a Olimpiadas Especiales Guatemala Champion swimmer who passed away after battling heart disease last year. Vilma shared the special spirit and passion of her daughter for sport and for life with us in a extensive interview (coming soon) and signed The Ball. One Ball, One World…

What is The Ball journey about?

Some people ask what is The Ball journey all about. The journeys of The Ball create content for our on going education programmes in Germany and Brazil. They help SoF raise awareness about organisations that are using football for various good reasons around the world. StreetSoccer Scotland & Street Soccer USA & Street Soccer México A.C. are combatting homelessness with football. Playworks are using the power of play to get young people more active. San Francisco Spikes Soccer Club are an open, tolerant welcoming gay and lesbian and transgeneder soccer club. Special Olympics are playing Unified Football where people with and without intellectual disability are playing together in mixed teams – they are also connecting The Ball to famous football clubs, football federations and decision makers. Senda Athletics are making fair trade footballs. jogabo.com are connecting people around playing football to have fun, stay fit and raise money for non-profits. The Ball is connecting with all of these organisations and sometimes bringing them together too. En route to Brazil we are finding out about the positive role football plays in the lives of people. We are running workshops in up to 100 schools in 25 countries over 6 months. Thousands of people with different religious beliefs or sexual orientations, of various ages, from different countries, with varying intellectual capacities are signing The Ball (6801 so far) and becoming part of something special and unique. Thanks to all the genuine people out there who have supported this mission and helped to shape its course. Without you this would not be possible. One Ball, One World.
