Starting in January 2014, Spirit of Football will be travelling from London to Brazil with The Ball – Soccer’s Olympic Torch. The Ball is a symbol of tradition, fair play and respect and a celebration of football’s capacity to bring people together all over the world. Since 2002 and every four years, Spirit of Football has taken The Ball from the site of the first official game of FA Rules soccer in London to the World Cup.

The Ball 2014:

will kick off in London on January 9th 2014, exactly 150 years after the first official game of soccer to FA rules: has been hand made by a prisoner in a Brazilian Government rehabilitation project called “Pintando a Liberdade”. will travel through Europe, North, Central and South America to Brazil has a mission to raise awareness for its partners and to produce education material for SoFs One Ball, One World education program will also visit schools, and famous places as well as some of the world’s oldest and most respected soccer clubs.

But the work never ends. 3000km on the road, 12 school workshops & 10 club visits to organise, accommodation and travel to plan, filming & editing and backing up and uploading and writing and posting and communicating. Not much sleep but also a lot of fun. One Ball, One World. And now 10 Hour Drive to Lisbon… day 24 on the road to Brazil…

The Ball 2010 left England on 24th Jan 2010 headed to the Opening Ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Ball 2006 travelled from London to the Opening Ceremony in Munich, Germany.

The Ball 2002 was carried 7000 miles across Europe and Asia to the World Cup finals in Korea & Japan.
