The Ball and its team of carriers arrive at 113 The Terrace, downtown Wellington, to meet Tory Whanau, the famous young mayor of New Zealand’s capital city Wellington. She has been in the news recently, and not for all the right reasons. We don’t have much time. She asks us what The Ball is all about and more or less, what do you want of me? We explain The Ball project and SOF to her in a few quick sentences. And we nicely suggest that “we want you to do a header, sign The Ball and pledge.” It turns out that the Mayor has never done a header before. But she is more than game for it. First though, an assistant brings her decorative Mayoral Chains, that only come out on special occasions. She puts them on and looks the part. Confidence in abundance she majestically heads The Ball – hair flowing behind. A natural born footballer. Her commitment:
I pledge to prioritize policies that lower our emissions for Wellington City.
