After coming back from the outer island on June 27th, we jumped right into our next workshop. This time were joined by 20 young women and men from different sports teams in Betio. Generally, we had noticed during our workshops, that many people are shy to speak in front of a group and often speak more confidently in their mother tongue. So with some help of translation and warm up games, including “Rock-Paper-Scissors” World Cup, we got them into conversation about gender equality and climate change.
And especially during and after our Fairplay Football game, the group relaxed. As many of the group were football players, the game came very natural to them. The random mixed teams and SoF’s fairplay rules ensured everyone was included in the game and participated. ‘I wanna dance with somebody’ and ‘girls just wanna have fun’ were especially well received songs, and multiple dance breaks were thrown in. Surprisingly, or maybe not surprisingly during our stay, it started raining, but we just continued playing. Nothing better than Fairplay Football in warm, rainy weather.
