On June 25 it was time for us to leave the ‘main land’ of Kiribati and go from South Tarawa to North Tarawa. We were lucky enough to go by speed boat and have a scenic ride from shore to shore.
When we arrived, we took a 40 min ride on a pick up through a bumpy road, accompanied by continuous rain. “Usually it doesn’t rain that much during this time”, we were told.
We were then welcomed in the main village of North Tarawa. Here the village elders are actually two women, although most of the time the male leaders of the village were speaking. We were offered some natural water as well as coconut water straight from the fruit.
On the way back to our Ocean View Hotel, we met some kids who were enjoying the sea and were excited to sign The Ball.
