12:45pm – 11-a-side match to Kick Off ‘The Ball’ on All Weather Pitches.
2:15pm – Green Plaque unveiling at the Sports Pavilion

Speeches, films, an exclusive premiere showing of the @[126440484824:274:New Model Army] track “The Beautiful Game”, DJ @[583080900:2048:Lawrence Chapple-Gill] (LCG’s Punk and Indie Collective) and @[734516645:2048:Martin Unkempt Taylor]’s brilliant punk covers band Colon Zamboni.

The Ball 2014 Kick-Off

Spirit of Football invites you to kick off The Ball 2014 on its epic 6 month 30,000 km journey to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Members of the cult band New Model Army including lead singer Justin Sullivan are going to play in the kick-off match. NMA has written and recorded the song “Beautiful game” especially to support The Ball’s journey.

Richard Tims, the chairman of the world’s first football club Sheffield FC, will enlighten us all with a fair play motivational and historical team talk.

@[115746175116302:274:Bazooka Goal] will supply small goals for the curtainraiser – a match between local schools.

@[129102677137087:274:Michael Toft – Street Soccer] will take on 1 v 1 street skills challenges at half time

The Ball is a symbol of tradition, fair play and respect and a celebration of football’s capacity to bring people together all over the world.

The Ball 2014:
…will kick off in London on January 9th 2014, exactly 150 years after the first football match to FA rules
…has been hand made by a prisoner in a Brazilian Government rehabilitation project called “Pintando a Liberdade” (painting for freedom)
…will travel through Europe, North, Central and South America to Brazil
…has a mission to raise awareness for the intellectually disadvantaged through Special Olympics
…will produce education material for SoFs One Ball, One World education programme
…will run its education workshops in schools and communities
…will visit famous places as well as some of the world’s oldest and most respected football clubs.

The Ball 2018 left England on 25th March 2018 and travelled to the World Cup in Russia.

The Ball 2014 kicked off from England on 9th Jan 2014 and headed to the World Cup in Brazil.

The Ball 2010 left England on 24th Jan 2010 headed to the Opening Ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Ball 2006 travelled from London to the Opening Ceremony in Munich, Germany.

The Ball 2002 was carried 7000 miles across Europe and Asia to the World Cup finals in Korea & Japan.
