Phil Wake
Phil spent 6 years running and performing with BURN, an acid jazz outfit from Bristol, working with Womad and touring in Europe. Lately he has been developing musicianship on drums, guitar, vocal and in recording techniques and performing. He has built an extensive library of ambient recordings. Phil is also skilled in circus arts, including juggling, acrobatics and sleight-of-hand magic. He now lives in Brighton, UK.
Christian Wach
Christian creates digital media programmes to keep a roof over his head and made this site in his spare time. His personal website can be found here. Previously, he spent six years as a professional juggler, touring 35 countries around the world until he discovered the joy of using his feet in sport. He now lives in Bristol, UK, where both professional football teams seem to have forgotten that very skill.
Richard Hamilton
Although running aid campaigns in Afghanistan for Concern Worldwide, Richard joined the Away Team in Uzbekistan, but had to return to Afghanistan to continue the relief efforts there. He planned to join the team again in Korea, but things in Afghanistan never got much better, despite his attempts to persuade the Northern Alliance to support England in the Cup. He now lives in Sudan, where he’ll never persuade them to support England.
Tim Noble
Tim bumped into Chris and Phil three times in three different cities in Central Asia, and has become a regular fixture in the team since then. He rejoined them (again) in Xiahe for the fixture with the monks where he dished out the last of his mint cake collection, then reported for FLH from Japan on the England games. He went on to Australia to take a well earned rest, then headed off to the Pacific islands and South America. He now lives in Kendal, UK, where he is able to replenish his mint cake collection with ease.
Rob Davis
Rob is The Infamous Battersea Park Fouler, gaining his reputation for his spectacular goalkeeping skills whilst still being an outfield player. Undeterred, he joined the team for the final leg in Xiahe, China. Look out for him in the movie disguised as a terracotta warrior. He is currently back in the UK where he is a multimedia programmer and artist in the daytime, and a DJ at night.
Ben Edwards
Ben was awarded Man of the Match in the Battersea Park game for his goalkeeping prowess. And before you ask, no, he wasn’t on the same team as Rob. He also installed the original Greymatter blogging software on the FLH server. He lives in Brighton.
Tim Wilson
Always vocal on the blog with his, er, wry sense of humour, Tim was the referee at Battersea Park. He now lives in Herefordshire, Wales, tending to his garden, or so we think. Perhaps it’s time to bring him out of retirement to help us with the Germany 2006 project – it couldn’t do any harm to have the referee on our side…
Miles Goodman
To his eternal credit (and our eternal gratitude) Miles came up with the name “Football’s Leaving Home” on an entertaining evening at his home in Bristol. A key player in the Battersea Park game, his support and encouragement have been invaluable. He still lives in Bristol, where the vegetable patch keeps steadily encroaching on the keep-up practice pitch in his garden.
Dominic Search
Dominic set up the mailing lists on this site, and was ever helpful in fixing stuff while the away team were up to their necks in fixtures. He still lives in Surbiton, but likes to call it Hook, which, admittedly, does sound better.
Dirk Freyler
Dirk managed the team in Berlin, where he provided much needed refreshments during one of the more hectic phases of the trip. He still lives in Berlin, where he works as a freelance TV producer, whilst also acting as chief FLH scout in Germany, reporting on the run up the World Cup 2006.
