Our Tour de France started on a rainy Saturday in October. Our car-sharing partner teilAuto provided us with a small car. Beforehand, we enquired about the possibility of driving to France in an electric car, but the few e-cars in the teilAuto fleet can currently only be charged in Erfurt – which is impractical for a trip to Lyon. To get to Lyon in a CO2 neutral way, we would have had to go by bike or foot.<\/p>\n

With a stopover in Benni Gr\u00fcnewald ( or BeeGee – SOF team member)\u2019s homeland in the Palatinate, the journey was very pleasant and The Ball was looking forward to its visit to France. The plan was to have an exchange of climate action methods with the French NGO Football Ecologie France (FEF)<\/a> and then run workshops together on site in both Lyon and Paris<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Day 1<\/h4>\n

All about FEF<\/strong>. FEF is still a young organisation, but the largest of its kind in France. With around 8 full-time and part-time employees and a large number of volunteers, they provide advice and support to football clubs that want to become more sustainable: they analyse the clubs, connect them with relevant actors in their region and offer sustainability tips and advice. They have also further developed the “climate game” fresco, especially for the football context. This playfully demonstrates the diverse influences of football on the environment and vice versa. Packed with facts, children, young people and adults learn and work out how the ecological footprint of football is calculated and are encouraged to find ideas to reduce it.<\/p>\n

FEF has about 200 trained facilitators across France who had led countless climate game workshops. The game evolves with the participants into a kind of fresco, a unique work of art. All areas of organised football are covered, such as the stadium, clothing, transport, equipment or even media coverage. The FEF team showed us how the game works, what hurdles to be aware of, and some methods to lighten the mood.<\/p>\n

Day 2<\/h4>\n

It was all about Spirit of Football<\/strong>: At FC Lyon, a Lyonese amateur club, we met with FEF in the President’s office to talk about the SOF methods developed to make the topic of sustainability and climate change more tangible and to motivate people to take action. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Spirit of Football was presented, our newly developed methods were played and discussed, and of course a small round of FairPlay football was played. Afterwards, we discussed how to combine the different methods of both partner organisations in the workshop that was to take place one day later.<\/p>\n

Before heading to the hotel, FC Lyon Manager Ivan Claudey took time to answer our questions, especially those about what his club wants to do in terms of sustainability. They have ambitious goals. FC Lyon want to become the most climate-friendly club in France.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Day 3<\/h4>\n

Day 3 started with the first joint FEF & Spirit of Football workshop<\/strong>. Children from the youth football team of FC Lyon were chosen to attend a 2.5 hour workshop. The central part of the workshop was the “Fresque Ecologique du Football (Ecology of Football Fresco)”. A game that openly and playfully presents the connections between sustainability and football. It is played in two teams: competitiveness and play are promoted, and points can be collected in each team. SOF\u2019s pledge cards, which represent 35 possible behaviours with a positive impact on the environment, were also used. Afterwards, the kids were excited about the colourful ball (The Ball) and the travel stories it has already gathered. We showed some photos and videos of the journey so far as well as of our previous The Ball trips. Finally, we went out on the grass together, discussed the purpose of this year’s The Ball journey, and invited all the kids to sign The Ball.<\/p>\n

Towards the end of the joint workshop, we the President and Founder of Football Ecologie France, Antoine Miche. Of course, we didn’t miss this opportunity to directly elicit a climate pledge from him.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, we set off again to explore Lyon with The Ball. The first stop was the amphitheatre Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Gallo Romain de Lyon-Fourvi\u00e8re, where BeeGee and The Ball gave a short performance, followed by a short detour to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvi\u00e8re. Unfortunately, the planned visit to the old town had to be cancelled because we lost something again. No, not The Ball, thankfully. But the car key: so we searched all the places we had been to. Without success. Fortunately, we had the idea to ask at the museum, which was located in the amphitheatre, and indeed – someone handed in the key there and the wild ride could continue. That was a good thing as we had another appointment in the afternoon: another fresque with young people from the Football Club Croix Roussien was on the agenda. Not only The Ball, but also a TV camera team was on site.<\/p>\n

Day 4<\/h4>\n

The alarm clock rang very early because it was time to go to Paris, where another joint workshop with the Football Ecologie France Paris team was planned for the early afternoon. Around 20 school children enrolled in a holiday programme came together to hear about The Ball, play through FEF’s Fresque method and play a short FairPlay football session. Afterwards, we were invited to visit the stadium, the press room and even the dressing room of the Parisian third division team Red Star FC. With these positive experiences in mind, Team Spirit then headed to the AirBnB with our trusty teilAuto companion, hoping to get a parking space. And we were indeed successful. Not only did we manage to get the last free parking space directly in front of our accommodation, we also made the acquaintance of our very warm hosts where we stayed for 2 nights.<\/p>\n

Day 5<\/h4>\n

After a quiet night in our beautiful accommodation, the next morning we had a meeting with the FEF Paris team and the Association Graines de Footballeuses. Over croissants and chocolatine\/pain au chocolat (depending on the region in France, opinions differ on this), we discussed how the organisations would like to present the exchange, because we had high ranking visitors coming: Geraldine Beauvisoir, representing the city of Saint-Ouen, as well as representatives of the Parisian third division club Red Star FC, including the president’s advisor and former French professional footballer Steve Marlet, came by to learn about the work of both organisations. And, of course, to sign The Ball – but not without making a climate pledge: Steve Marlet told us that he sold his car and is now testing different alternative ways to get to his workplace. And washing at 30\u00b0C, that’s what he will do from now on. After a successful presentation, Team Spirit and The Ball took in the sights of Paris. Project manager Jenny Amann celebrated a Werder Bremen (her favourits team) victory under the Eiffel Tower and Beegee watched Paris Saint Germain live, before the two ball-carriers headed back to Germany, tired but also full of even more climate education knowledge and experience.<\/p>\n

Unsere Tour de France beginnt an einem regnerischen Samstag im Oktober. Unser Car-Sharing Partner teilAuto stattete uns mit einem Kleinwagen aus. Vorab erkundigten wir uns nach der M\u00f6glichkeit, mit einem Elektroauto nach Frankreich zu fahren, jedoch k\u00f6nnen die wenigen E-Autos der teilAuto Flotte derzeit nur in Erfurt geladen werden \u2013 was etwas unpraktisch f\u00fcr eine Fahrt nach Lyon ist. Um CO2 Neutral nach Lyon zu kommen, h\u00e4tten wir wohl dann die Fahrr\u00e4der nehmen m\u00fcssen.
\nMit einem Zwischenstopp in BeeGees Heimat Pfalz wurde die Fahrt sehr angenehm, der Ball freute sich auf den ersten Auftritt in Frankreich. Der Plan sah einen Austausch mit der franz\u00f6sischen NGO Football Ecologie France (FEF)<\/a> vor, um dann anschlie\u00dfend vor Ort gemeinsam Workshops durchzuf\u00fchren.<\/p>\n

Tag 1<\/h4>\n

Tag 1 stand ganz im Rahmen der FEF. FEF ist eine noch junge Organisation, dennoch in ihrem Feld die gr\u00f6\u00dfte ihrer Art in Frankreich. Mit ihren etwa 8 Angestellten in Voll- oder Teilzeit und einer Vielzahl an Ehrenamtlichen Unterst\u00fctzer:innen, stehen sie Vereinen, die nachhaltiger werden wollen mit Rat und Tat zur Seite<\/strong>: sie schauen sich die Vereine an, vernetzen<\/strong> sie mit relevanten Akteuren und geben Tipps und Hinweise<\/strong>. Au\u00dferdem haben sie das \u201eKlimaspiel\u201c Fresque weiterentwickelt, speziell f\u00fcr den Fu\u00dfballkontext. Dabei werden spielerisch die vielf\u00e4ltigen Einfl\u00fcsse von Fu\u00dfball auf die Umwelt und andersherum aufgezeigt. Gespickt mit Fakten lernen und erarbeiten Kinder, Jugendliche & Erwachsene wie sich der \u00f6kologische Fu\u00dfabdruck im Fu\u00dfball zusammensetzt, und werden angeregt Ideen zu finden diesen zu verringern.
\nFEF hat Frankreichweit etwa 200 ausgebildete Teamende, die dieses Spiel leiten k\u00f6nnen, unz\u00e4hlige Spiele wurden bereits durchgef\u00fchrt. Das Spiel entwickelt sich mit den Teilnehmenden zu einer Art Fresko, einem einzigartigen Kunstwerk. Alle Bereiche des Fu\u00dfballs werden abgedeckt, wie das Stadion, Kleidung, Transport, Equipment oder auch die Medienberichterstattung.
\nDie Teamenden von FEF zeigten uns wie diesen Spiel funktioniert, welche H\u00fcrden man beachten muss, und einige Methoden die Stimmung aufzulockern.<\/p>\n

Tag 2<\/h4>\n

Tag 2 waren die Spirit of Football Teamenden gefordert: Beim FC Lyon, einem Lyonesischen Semi- Amateurklub, traf man sich im B\u00fcro des Pr\u00e4sidenten, um die SOF Methoden zum Thema Nachhaltigkeit und Fu\u00dfball kennenzulernen. Zwischen 10 und 16 Uhr wurde Spirit of Football vorgestellt, unsere neu entwickelten Methoden angespielt und durchgesprochen und nat\u00fcrlich wurde auch eine kleine Runde Fair-Play Fu\u00dfball gespielt. Anschlie\u00dfend wurde diskutiert in welcher Form man die verschiedenen Methoden in dem einen Tag sp\u00e4ter stattfindenden Workshop zusammenf\u00fcgen kann. Bevor es gen Hotel ging nahm sich der Manager des FC Lyon, Ivan Claudey, Zeit, unsere Fragen zu beantworten, insbesondere jene, was sein Verein in Sachen Nachhaltigkeit machen m\u00f6chte. Sie haben ambitionierte Ziele, sie m\u00f6chten der klimafreundlichste Verein in ganz Frankreich werden.<\/p>\n

Tag 3<\/h4>\n

Der dritte Tag startet mit dem ersten gemeinsamem Workshoptag von FEF & Spirit of Football<\/strong>. Kinder der Fu\u00dfballjugend des FC Lyon wurden auserw\u00e4hlt einen knapp 2,5h Workshop beizuwohnen. Der zentrale Bestandteil des Workshops war das \u201eFresque Ecologique du Football\u201c. Ein Spiel, welches die Zusammenh\u00e4nge von Nachhaltigkeit und Fu\u00dfball offen und spielerisch darlegt. Dabei wird in zwei Teams gespielt, der kompetitive Aspekt und Spieltrieb gef\u00f6rdert, es k\u00f6nnen jeweils Punkte gesammelt werden. Diesmal fanden zudem unsere Pledgekarten, die 35 m\u00f6gliche Verhaltensweisen mit positivem Einfluss auf die Umwelt darstellen, Anwendung. Im Anschluss daran waren die Kids begeistert von dem bunten The Ball und Reisegeschichten, die er zu erz\u00e4hlen hatte. Wir zeigten einige Fotos und Videos unserer bisherigen Reise sowie unserer vorherigen The Ball Reisen. Zum finalen Abschluss gingen wir gemeinsam auf den Rasen, besprachen nochmal den Sinn der diesj\u00e4hrigen The Ball \u2013 Tour, und luden alle Kids ein, einen Kopfball zu machen und auf The Ball zu unterschreiben. Gegen Ende des gemeinsamen Workshops besuchten uns neben alten FEF und FC Lyon Bekannten auch der Pr\u00e4sident und Gr\u00fcnder von Football Ecologie France, Antoine Miche. Nat\u00fcrlich haben wir uns diese Gelegenheit nicht entgehen lassen, ihm direkt ein Klimaversprechen zu entlocken.<\/p>\n

Danach machten wir uns nochmal auf, um mit The Ball Lyon zu erkunden. Der erste Stopp war das Amphitheater Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Gallo Romain de Lyon-Fourvi\u00e8re, wo Benni und The Ball eine kleine Vorstellung zum Besten gaben, gefolgt von einem kurzen Abstecher zur Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvi\u00e8re. Die geplante Besichtigung der Altstadt musste leider abgesagt werden, denn wir haben mal wieder etwas verloren. Nein, nicht The Ball. Aber den Autoschl\u00fcssel: also haben wir nochmal alle Orte, an denen wir waren, abgesucht. Ohne Erfolg. Gl\u00fccklicherweise kam uns die Idee, im Museum, das sich im Amphitheater befand,\u00a0 nachzufragen und tats\u00e4chlich \u2013 jemand hat den Schl\u00fcssel dort abgegeben und die wilde Fahrt konnte weitergehen. Denn wir hatten noch einen weiteren Termin am Nachmittag: Eine weitere Fresque mit Jugendlichen des Football Club Croix Roussien stand an. Nicht nur The Ball, sondern auch ein Kamerateam war vor Ort, denn \u00fcber Football Ecologie France sollte im Fernsehen berichtet werden.<\/p>\n

Tag 4<\/h4>\n

Am vierten Tag klingelte der Wecker sehr fr\u00fch, denn es ging nach Paris, wo am fr\u00fchen Nachmittag ein weiterer gemeinsamer Workshop mit der Football Ecologie France Paris Gruppe geplant war. Rund 20 Schulkinder, die bei einer Ferienbetreuung angemeldet waren, kamen zusammen, um von The Ball zu h\u00f6ren, mit FEF deren Methode Fresque durchzuspielen sowie eine kurze FairPlay Fu\u00dfball Session zu spielen. Im Anschluss waren wir eingeladen das Stadion, den Presseraum und sogar die Kabine des Pariser Drittligisten Red Star FC zu besuchen. Mit diesen positiven Erfahrungen im R\u00fccken, begab sich Team Spirit dann mit unserem treuen teilAuto-Gef\u00e4hrten auf den Weg zum AirBnB, in der Hoffnung einen Parkplatz zu ergattern. Und wir hatten tats\u00e4chlich Erfolg. Neben dem letzten freien Parkplatz direkt vor unserer Unterkunft, machten wir ebenfalls Bekanntschaft mit unseren sehr herzlichen Gastgebern. Hier blieben wir 2 N\u00e4chte lang.<\/p>\n

Tag 5<\/h4>\n

Nach einer ruhigen Nacht in unserer sch\u00f6nen Unterkunft, stand am n\u00e4chsten Morgen ein Treffen mit dem FEF Paris Team und der Association Graines de Footballeuses an. Bei Croissant und Chocolatine\/Pain au Chocolat (je nach Region in Frankreich scheiden sich hier die Geister) besprochen, wie sich die Organisationen pr\u00e4sentieren m\u00f6chten, denn hoher Besuch stand ins Haus: Geraldine Beauvisoir als Vertreterin f\u00fcr die Stadt Saint-Ouen sowie Vertreter des Pariser Drittligisten Red Star FC, darunter der Berater des Pr\u00e4sidenten und ehemalige franz\u00f6sische Nationalspieler Fu\u00dfballer Steve Marlet kamen vorbei, um \u00fcber die Arbeit der Organisationen zu erfahren. Und, selbstverst\u00e4ndlich, auch um auf The Ball zu unterschreiben \u2013 nicht aber ohne ein Klimaversprechen abzugeben: Steve Marlet erz\u00e4hlte uns bspw., dass er sein Auto verkauft hat und jetzt verschiedene alternative M\u00f6glichkeiten testet, um zu seinem Arbeitsplatz zu kommen. Und bei 30\u00b0C waschen, das wird er von nun ab auch tun. Nach einer gelungenen Pr\u00e4sentation machte Team Spirit und The Ball noch die Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten von Paris unsicher, unterm Eiffelturm wurde ein Werdersieg gefeiert und am Samstag ging es dann nach einer Stippvisite bei Paris Saint Germain zur\u00fcck Richtung Heimat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
