there are times in your life, when you think: “What’s that all about?” And you muse to yourself: Nothing can surprise me anymore. And then an army helicopter comes flying around the corner, except that in this case it wasn’t a corner but the Vasil Levski Stadium, filled with 20,000 spectators.
Unbelievable for us, but not for the ecstatic fans, who had been waiting for the arrival of the helicopter plus Club legends Hristov Stoichkov, Dimirtar Berbatov and World Cup 94′ trainer Dimitar Penev. The Ball could comfortably watch the entire programme in honour of the 70th birthday of the army sports club from its place in the stands. After one and a half hours of tributes to successful sportsmen in different categories, parachutists, brass music, traditional dances, communal singing of the Club hymn, military exercises of a special unit and constant loud cries of CSKA-CSKA, the match between CSKA Sofia and PFC Ludogorets Razgrad started.
After the first 45 minutes, we were witness to two kinds of fireworks: the first in the sky, the second in the stand. The referee had to call for a five minute break, before the game could go on without much excitement. In the end it said 0:0 on the scoreboard and the big wave of euphoria, which had been swashing through the stadium even two hours before kickoff, quickly came to an end.
