Just to try and defend my (admittedly indefensible) position – the road was going downhill to meet the river at various points. That, and my knowledge that no rivers flow out of Issy-Kul made be disbelieve my own senses. Doubt started to set in when I saw that the river didn’t actually originate from Issy-Kul, but craftily veered off about 5km from the shore. Live and learn… damn!
